Charlotte County Housing Council: Breaking Barriers and Building Opportunities

Meet Robert Tinker from the Charlotte County Housing Council in St. Andrews. With support from WorkingNB’s Workplace Connections program, Robert helped turn employment barriers into opportunities.
Through the program, Robert welcomed a newcomer as part of his team who faced challenges—limited English skills and difficulty securing a placement. Instead of focusing on obstacles, Robert focused on potential. By providing hands-on work in apartment repairs and using translation tools to communicate, he created an inclusive workplace where everyone benefited.
Robert shares:
“What made this placement really rewarding was seeing how openness and a bit of patience made a real difference. He contributed meaningfully to our maintenance projects, and in return, I learned about his culture and the challenges he faced. Helping him reconnect with employment resources so he could take the next step felt like the right thing to do.”
