Each year the MSA conducts field programs related to Atlantic salmon conservation. These include cold water pool maintenance, fry stocking, electrofishing, smolt estimates and other important initiatives. Our summer students are provided on the job training to help out with the delivery of these programs. In addition to field program, students work at our hatchery facility helping to guide visitors through our hatchery tour. Other small weekly tasks, such as lawn mowing and minor painting projects are also carried out by students. The students are led by our head Biologist, Lyndsay Jay-Keating who herself was a summer student at MSA. Lyndsay is a terrific mentor and leader, and is able to spend quality time with our students teaching them the importance of salmon conservation in the Miramichi. Many of the SEED students we have employed in the past have returned to MSA as regular employees and launched their careers in this conservation.

The responsibilities of a program coordinator with HALL will be to develop, plan, market, implement, and evaluate preschool activities such as Preschool Summer Camp and community outreach activities in the Hampton community. These activities will include but are not limited to community events and outdoor play groups. Students are required to have First Aid and CPR training and are required to have a criminal and SD record check.

Undertake research to identify opportunities and best practices for senior organizations to optimize operations in the areas of programming, fundraising, volunteer recruitment, membership recruitment, facilities, and marketing campaigns. This will be done by way of internet research, literature review, and direct contact. Reporting to a senior member of the Board the results will be compiled and presented to the complete Board of Directors.

As an intern at our Nature Campus the employee will gain exposure to program delivery and land maintenance. The successful candidate(s) will be working with our program staff to create, deliver and support our nature-based summer programs Engaging with children, families and adults in nature based artistic / creative programs. In addition to supporting the delivery of nature-based programing the Nature Campus Intern will be responsible to assist with the Knowlesville Art & Nature Centre grounds, trails and gardens. Supporting our landscaping and ecological land restoration team to create both full circle seed gardens and our community native tree and shrub nursery to provide plants for local forest restoration efforts. These positions will 1) Assist with the site preparation and maintenance of the Knowlesville Community Seed Garden & Acadian Forest Restoration Nursery sites ; 2) Help with the Community Seed Library Projects in collaboration with the participating libraries.

Organizing and implementing weekly Summer programs for families and their preschool children. This could include literacy activities, puppet shows, music, art work, crafts etc. The employee will assist with the Community Food Smart programs monthly packing, and cleaning and updating the inventory. He/She will assist with preparing crafts and activities for our season programming. This position will also include basic office duties (answering phone, photocopying, taking messages, accepting deliveries). This position will provide great experience for those entering the Early Childhood Education field.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Tourism to gather tourism data for the Western New Brunswick region, facilitate regional collaboration for events and promotions throughout the region under direction from the Western NB Service Commission team. The candidate should have strong written and spoken communication skills and must be comfortable talking to people of all ages.

The candidate will work with the Director of Public Safety to gather data and to write a draft working document for public safety in the Western New Brunswick region. The job will include liaising with public safety coordinators from each municipality, police and RCMP, fire departments, and other stakeholders to help create and write a comprehensive Public Safety plan for the entire region.

The candidate will work with the Community Development Coordinator to gather data necessary to complete various documents that will be used by the general public to access community development infrastructure that is already available and to identify gaps in the existing inventory. The candidate will work with the existing staff to write draft documents that will be used to compose the future plan for the Community Development and Transportation mandate in the Western New Brunswick region.

The Central Miramichi Historical Society is in need of a motivated and driven individual who is interested in the history of the communities on the Main Southwest Miramichi. Candidates must have a working knowledge of computers and experience writing detailed reports; in addition to transcribing handwritten letters. Over the course of the summer, the employee will be tasked with completing at least two exhibit pieces, which will be showcased at the Doak Provincial Heritage Site. These include a piece that commemorates the original members of the CMHS and an exhibit that explores the one roomed School House in Central New Brunswick. Outside of these projects, Summer employees will be expected to assist with conducting interviews of town elders. If a candidate is independent, analytical, and enjoys engaging with History on a daily Basis, they will thrive in our workplace environment.

Youth hired will be engaged in landscaping and maintaining municipally-owned properties in the community. Though activities such as mowing lawns and maintaining parks, they will gain time-management and organizational skills as well as develop a positive work ethic and values such as responsibility and integrity.
