Under supervision of our project coordinator preform electrofishing surveys to determine juvenile fish densities, on the Nepisiguit River and its tributaries and other rivers in the Chaleur region. This helps determine salmon fry distribution in the area.
Water quality testing which includes water temperatures, turbidity, flow rates, acidity, O2 levels, and other parameters are performed on the Nepisiguit, its tributaries, Bass ,Nigadoo, Tetagouche, Elmtree rivers to determine river health. While preforming these tasks the crew's do cleanup, beaver dam assessment and mapping to determine possible passage issues for returning spawning salmon to native spawning areas. This is used for possible breaching of dams in the fall. With help from government agencies and NGO's CABIN and BENTHIC surveys will be performed on all rivers in the Chaleur Area. When combined all these surveys would give a greater understanding of the health of the complete Watershed.
