Empowering Youth: How Abby Found Her Career Path
Abby recently achieved her goal of full-time employment through WorkingNB’s Be Employed Program, a pilot initiative in Saint John that empowers youth. This program is designed to help participants build confidence, develop essential skills, and gain meaningful work experience, creating a clear path toward lasting careers and stronger connections to the labour market.

After two years of searching for full-time work without success, Abby refused to give up on her dream. With the support of WorkingNB, she joined the Be Employed program, where she spent 6 weeks building confidence and essential skills through training and certifications. That was followed by an 8-week work placement that gave her hands-on experience. Her determination and hard work paid off. Abby turned her goal into reality and proudly began a full-time role as Office Administrator at Fernhill Cemetery in June 2025!
“Ever since I started working at Fernhill my life has done a 180 and I haven’t felt this amazing in a long time.” - Abby
Patrick Olsen, the General Manager at Fernhill Cemetery expressed his gratitude for WorkingNB’s support in helping them find the right fit for their team. “We’re very pleased to welcome Abby as a new member of the team” - Patrick
