Learning first for Greater Success

Just three months after leaving Togo to settle in New Brunswick with his wife, an international student, Mr. Claude Akla Badie began this new chapter with curiosity, motivation, and a genuine thirst for learning. Rather than rushing into the job market, he made the thoughtful decision to observe, understand, and adapt to the codes of the Canadian workplace, as well as employers’ expectations. With this open mindset, and following the recommendation of his employment counselor, he took part in the Navigating the New Brunswick Workplace information session, seeing it as a key step toward building a strong foundation and confidently planning his future in Canada.

The goal of this information session is to help newcomers understand Canadian workplace culture and expectations so they can integrate successfully and make informed career choices. For Claude, the session became a turning point, one that reshaped his perception of employment and professional integration in Canada.
The information session opened his eyes to the realities of the Canadian workplace. Through guided discussions and practical examples, he gained a clearer understanding of workplace norms, communication styles, and professional expectations.
He learned that success in Canada is not based solely on qualifications or experience, but also on adaptability, cultural awareness, and interpersonal skills. Small details, such as communication style, collaboration, and professional etiquette, can have a significant impact on how newcomers integrate and succeed at work.

Why This Information Session Matters for Newcomers

What made the session particularly impactful was its practical and transparent approach. He discovered how the Canadian job market works, including the openness around salaries and job expectations, an important contrast to his experience back home.
The session also highlighted the hidden job market and the importance of networking. He realized that many opportunities are never advertised online and that building connections plays a key role in accessing employment opportunities.
Most importantly, the information session provided clarity. Instead of learning through trial and error, he gained a structured understanding of the system, helping him move forward with confidence.
