Investing in Community: How Two Entrepreneurs Are Making an Impact in Grand Manan

Lauren Martin and Mike Munro moved to Grand Manan in 2021 to continue operating the Grand Isle Drug Store. Since then, they have been committed to strengthening their community and expanding access to essential services.

With a focus on community health and sustainability, they established the Coast Health & Wellness Centre, significantly improving access to care on the island. The centre offers dental care, optometry, chiropractic services, massage therapy, counselling, and other supports, services that previously required residents to travel off-island.

They have also contributed to local tourism and economic development through ventures such as The Tides Inn & Social and Grand Manan Brewing Company, helping create jobs, attract visitors, and strengthen the local economy.

Support from WorkingNB

“WorkingNB has played an important role in supporting the growth of these businesses,” they share. Through workforce development programs and training, WorkingNB has helped them hire, train, and retain local talent, all thanks to one of our Workforce Consultant, Ian Williams.

“They have been a great employer to work with,” says Ian.

Big Impact on a Small Island

Through their leadership and investment, Lauren and Mike have expanded access to healthcare, created employment opportunities, and contributed to a more resilient and sustainable community on Grand Manan.
