A YMCA Day Camp Counsellor is responsible for leading and supervising groups of children (ages 5-12) in a variety of recreational, educational, and outdoor activities. They will ensure a safe, fun, and positive environment, promote teamwork, and help campers develop social, emotional, and physical skills. Counsellors also communicate with parents/guardians, assist with daily camp operations, and foster a fun, supportive and inclusive atmosphere.

Under the direction of the supervisor : Support community garden preparation including furrows and flower beds; Maintain trails, lawns, flower beds, trees in La Solitude woodland, including new reforestation sites and saplings; Maintain the organic garden, the vegetable production and the composting station; Beautify the grounds and plant flowers; Make minor repairs to the buildings; Clean cabins and common areas; Collect firewood and supply cabins; Help pick fruits and vegetables; Wash and bag garden produce for sale at the community garden kiosk and for community distribution; Help store and can garden fruits and vegetables; Contribute to the preparation of soups (with produce from the community garden) for La Solitude clients; Welcome and guide visitors to the community garden; Participate in team meetings and social activities; Support the administration team.

A Cabin Leader’s primary responsibility is to build relationships with campers and help draw them closer to Christ, introducing them to a life like no other! Cabin Leaders lead cabin discussion groups, offer love and a listening ear (and correction if needed) and care for the daily basic needs of campers. Cabin Leaders also lead various land and water activities according to ability, experience, and interest, and assist in leading teams in various adventure games. Key Responsibility Areas • As primary caregiver to his or her campers while they are at camp. • As spiritual leader in his or her cabin • As a part of the camp leadership team by leading or assisting to lead activities and skills in accordance with his or her experience, training, and interests. The early childhood summer camp counselor will be responsible to ensure the safety of children aged 5 to 12. They will work a team member with the director, other staff members, parents and children. The camp counselor will provide daily games and activities that are fun, educational and challenging to the children.
