The MCAF Newcomer Youth Workers support settlement services to newcomer students by providing online and on-site programming focused on language development and wellness in a fun and interactive format. They provide mentorship, language support, and academic support to grade 7-12 students in small groups via online platforms and on-site at MCAF. The youth workers design learning and social online sessions to support students based on individual student needs. They work closely with the Settlement Workers in Schools team to support students to learn about and to integrate into the community.
Key Duties
• Develop and deliver creative MCAF tutoring program both online and in-person
• Maintain accurate and updated records regarding program participants, including attendance, group email distribution list and emergency contact information for each participant
• Support facilitation of wellness activities

The selected farmhand would assist with care of the animals to include feedings, water checks and wellness checks. They should be comfortable around a variety of farm animals and may be required to handle animals based on their ability. They should be able to assist with a variety of on farm jobs such as fence set up/repairs, ground work and maintenance, and cleaning animal housing. They may tend to the garden and hydroponics system, to include harvesting produce. If the individual has a driver's license, they may be given tractor work, or asked to do pick ups (animal feed and meat from butcher) as well as drop offs such as donated or sold meat and produce to organizations and community members. The non-profit often has volunteers who are military veterans assisting with tasks in addition to regular staff - applicants must be able to work with other individuals. Comfort around animals and other individuals is key but specific skills and training will be provided as required.

Persons hired will work one on one and in a team setting with Persons with Disabilities. The roles of the persons hired will be to job coach, support, teach (while learning from) persons with disabilities. Tasks will include one-on-one supervision in the Food Bank, Arts and Crafts Room, Kitchen, Technology Learning Center, Redemption Center, and helping with the retail and goods preparation in the Lakeland Shoppe (Thrift Store). The persons hired will be employed to teach social and life skills to those who find it difficult at times. Coaching and interactive skills with our employees (32) will be very important during their work placement. They will be supervised and coached themselves by the staff at Lakeland to ensure they get the best work and life experience while doing their placement at Lakeland.
