The Recreation Assistant will work collaboratively with the Director of Recreation & Parks to assist, manage, and monitor a suite of seasonal recreation and leisure opportunities for the residents of the Rural Community of Hanwell. The Recreation Assistant's main duties will include acting as the main liaison for community initiatives that extend across multiple disciplines (i.e., arts, leisure, recreation, and sport), developing effective communication and marketing material, and be responsible for program delivery if need be. The Recreation Assistant must be willing to work varied hours as evening and weekend responsibilities will be varied from event-to-event.

Summary of duties

The person will help with the coordination of the activities of the GDDPC and will participate in team meetings. Among other things, the person will develop its own environmental project and sort and classify materials in the office. Depending on funding responses, the person will be in-volved in our various conservation, awareness and nature connection projects.

Main duties
• Assist in maintaining school gardens and the community garden.
• Participate in collecting data on water quality in the river, streams, and bay within the Cocagne watershed. This involves data collection on eelgrass and water quality parameters.
• Assist in the restoration and conservation of riparian lands, including planting and seeding, communicating with landowners and the public.
• Contribute to the survey of shorebirds.
• Assist in training sessions and field outings related to butterflies and swallows.
