Depending on the assigned department and position, duties may include performing general labour tasks to support municipal operations in Water and Sewer, Roads and Grounds, Parks, and Sports Facilities. Responsibilities may include assisting with water and wastewater operations; working in and around lift stations; painting fire hydrants; performing traffic control; grass cutting, landscaping, and grounds maintenance; planting and maintaining flower beds and trees; watering and general park upkeep; changing garbage and maintaining public spaces. The student may assist with storm system repairs, shovelling asphalt, trail maintenance, and upkeep of playing fields, tracks, tennis courts, and other recreational facilities. Duties also include daily maintenance, inspections, and custodial tasks in comfort stations. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and requires the ability to perform physical labour safely and effectively as part of a team.
