Students will gain hands-on experience as hatchery and biological technicians. Weekend rotations and seasonal tasks provide diverse experience in fisheries research, conservation, and public outreach throughout the Miramichi watershed.

Students will assist Miramichi Salmon Association staff with smolt tracking, population assessments, and conservation programs for Atlantic salmon. Duties include collecting and sorting smolts, tagging, transport, and release, with downstream movements monitored via acoustic telemetry. In June, students help with fry stocking in natal streams. In July and August, they support cold-water habitat monitoring, electrofishing surveys, and juvenile assessments. Students also assist with educational programs such as First Cast and Fish Friends and serve as hatchery tour guides. This role provides hands-on experience in fisheries research, habitat conservation, and public outreach while contributing to salmon conservation in the Miramichi watershed.
